Bill Shumate and George Smith participated with a church that took truck loads of food and supplies to the tornado victims in Missouri. This picture was taken the day they returned. They said a person couldn't believe the devastation they had seen there.
Bus Trip to Wisconsin
On August 6 and 7, 2010, 35 people boarded a bus to go to the Dodge County Antique Power Show at Beaver Dam, Wisconsin on Friday afternoon. That evening we spent the night at the Holiday Inn in Fond du lac. On Saturday we traveled to Keller's Tractors at Brillion, Wisconsin.
Keller's collection, which has been assembled from all around the country since the early 1970s, contains 54 first-built units of a particular model, a handful of the last built units from a model line, six experimental tractors and two that were the only ones made for that model. One of the many treasured units is a John Deere 40 Standard that was owned from 1953 to 1982 by Charles D. Wiman, a grandson of John Deere. It was brought to Calumet County from Santa Barbara, Calif.
Among the other special interest units in the collection are the first John Deere 830 diesel made in 1958, the first general purpose BW from the production line on Feb. 21, 1935, that went to an original buyer at South Bay, Fla., and the first John Deere B, BW, 530 LP and 620 LP models.
Walter and Bruce Keller have seven buildings filled with tractors. One of the buildings is a replica of a John Deere store complete with a deer sculpture in front of it. At noon the Keller's accompanied us to Mom's Place Family Restaurant in Brillion where Walter told us about some of his purchases and answered questions.
The Keller's tractor collection is housed along County Trunk HR just east of State Highway 32/57 in northern Calumet County. It is 1.5 miles south of Forest Junction, which is at the intersection of U.S. Highways 10 and State 32/57. (Some of this information came from alltractorsusa.com)
